The Claremont Piano Trio
Twin sisters Emily Bruskin and Julia Bruskin formed the Claremont Trio with Donna Kwong in 1999 at The Juilliard School. After winning the 2001 Young Concert Artists International Auditions, the Claremont Trio launched their touring career with an acclaimed New York debut at the 92nd Street Y. The Claremonts are based in New York City near their namesake: Claremont Avenue. The Trio was the first recipient of the Kalichstein-Laredo-Robinson International Trio Award in December 2003. This award is a biennial piano trio award based upon an impetus to encourage and enhance the careers of accomplished and extraordinarily promising young piano trios (piano-violin-cello). The trios, to be considered, must have been together as ensembles for approximately five to ten years, have agency management and already be actively engaged in touring. In 2004, the Claremont Trio released its debut recording of the Mendelssohn Trios on Arabesque Recordings. In 2006, the Trio released a recording of the two Shostakovich Trios and the Arensky Trio on Tria Records. Deeply committed to expanding the piano trio repertoire, the group has commissioned and premiered compositions by Daniel Kellogg, Mason Bates, and Hillary Zipper. The Trio is also extensively involved in music education and has been recognized for its engaging and interactive programs for students of all ages.
