Chamber Music in Williamsburg
Dear CMSW Subscribers:
With profound regret, the governing board of The Chamber Music Society of Williamsburg is forced to cancel its 2020-2021 season of six concerts. Hoping for a breakthrough in the fight against Covid-19, we deferred this decision until now. Unfortunately, the virulent virus remains a danger. State and local preventive actions remain in place, and all of us are cautioned to maintain distance from each other. Our performance venue—the Williamsburg Library Theatre—will remain closed through the end of the year, with no announced plans on what restrictions might be imposed on audience density when it reopens. Further, we recognize the danger both for our audience and for the musicians who must travel to perform for us.
All six performance groups of our intended series regret the necessity of this decision but agree with it. CMSW joins a host of concert producers throughout the world in taking this step.
Fortunately, there is great hope that an effective vaccine will become widely available in 2021. Confident in this, CMSW has begun work to reschedule the fine ensembles previously scheduled for the 2020-2021 season for our 2021-2022 season. Indeed, they are eager to join us here in Williamsburg when all will be safe.
Counting on your abiding loyalty to the CMSW, we will issue tickets for 2021-2022 series to all of you who now hold tickets for the delayed season. Tickets will be mailed to you as soon as the world settles down, and schedules can be confirmed with confidence. If for some reason you wish a refund, we will accommodate you.
Until they can be with us in person, all of our intended performers hope you will enjoy their recorded video performances:
Soon we will email news to you of additional interesting musical links.
Again, thank you for your loyalty and support. We will contact you when we have been able to confirm the next performance season.
Jim Coomer, CMSW president
